10 things to do this weekend | 29th September – 1st October

If you’re looking to welcome October in with a bang, then we’ve got you covered. From new theatre to off-the-wall music, we reckon there’s something for pretty much everyone to do in Brighton this weekend. Come on in…

1. Dance, swim and do yoga under the full moon

We’re in for a treat with another full moon this Friday, and that can only mean one thing… the return of a RubyMoon Gym to Swim event. If you’re not familiar with the Brighton-based brand RubyMoon, they create gorgeous sustainable swim and activewear, with 100 percent of their profits going to support female entrepreneurs in developing countries. So, what can you expect this Friday? You’ll be guided through a yoga session by Yoga in the Lanes, entertained with music by DJ Ben, and serenaded by Zoe, who will be debuting her new single. And, of course, don’t forget the highlight: taking a plunge in the sea!

2. Watch an exciting new folk theatre production

There’s a new production making its way to Brighton this Saturday. Hailing from Canterbury, the Parrot Theatre Company is coming to the atmospheric Old Net Loft in the Brighton Fishing Museum to perform their new folk theatre piece, Death and the Carpenter. The darkly funny tale explores death, love and chance using a blend of puppetry, storytelling, and live folk music.
Saturday 30th September; 7.30pm – 8.30pm; from £10.46
The Old Net Loft, Kings Road Arches, Brighton, BN1 1NB

3. Experience an alien rave gig

If you’re looking for something ‘out there’ in every sense, then you’ll want to head to Concorde 2 this Saturday. Genre-busting band Henge (you might find them in that indefinable place between prog rock and rave) will take to the stage, performing songs from their new album Alpha Test 4. Often referred to as ‘extraterrestrial ravers’ due to their unique blend of what we’re going to call trippy space rock music – or, as they call it, cosmic dross – these guys will be dressed to impress in fictional sci-fi costumes. In short: Henge are the sweet spot where science fiction meets theatre. Hold tight for a unique evening of eclectic musical joy.

4. Get stuck in to a Regency banquet at The Royal Pavilion

This event may be a bit on the pricey side, but we reckon it’s worth every penny. This Saturday, The Royal Pavilion are hosting a Regency banquet, offering the rare opportunity to dine in their fabulously ornate banqueting room. You’ll be greeted with a cocktail in the great kitchen and then treated to a five-course meal inspired by the cuisine of Antonin Carême, who was the Prince Regent’s chef. Talented locals, such as pâtissier Julian Plumart, Boho Gelato’s Seb Cole, private chef Simon McKenzie and Easy Tiger’s Sabu Joseph, will be creating five delicious courses, each one paired with tea-based soft drinks typical of the 1800s. It’s a truly exclusive, one-of-a-kind dining experience. Plus, if you fancy a flight of five fine wines, you can upgrade for an extra £50. Now THAT’S how you do fine dining.

In case you missed it, Exeter Street Hall has been celebrating a decade of community ownership with a series of events throughout September, and this weekend marks the grand finale. Join them this Saturday for a fabulous tea party, because what’s a birthday without a celebration, right? They’ll be serving tea, along with sandwiches, savoury bites, and delicious cakes. There’s a bar that will remain open until 8pm, too. And, if you haven’t had the chance to see it yet, this is also a great opportunity to catch the last day of the Stanford Schools Art Exhibition at the hall.
