5 things to do this weekend | 23rd – 25th september

So autumn is *officially* here and we’ve already caved and put the heating on. But before we get stuck in to the glory of crunchy leaves and all things pumpkin (picking, spiced lattes, pie, the works), ‘we’ve got another weekend of fun to savour.

Get your Trocks out
Trailblazing all-male ballet troupe Les Ballets Trocadero De Monte Carlo – aka The Trocks – is back at Brighton Dome for the first time in seven years. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer to their hilarious parodies of classical ballet, you’re in for a fun-filled treat, dance afficionado or not. Expect flawless technique coupled with spot-on comic timing from the 16 performers who transform into different personas and gender roles in what is set to be a sizzling performance of Swan Lake.
Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th September; 7.30pm
Church Street, Brighton BN1 1UE

Have a wizard time
Literally. If the rain carries on this weekend, then Brighton’s newest wizard-inspired bar (we write as if the city is bursting with the things) is a great way to magic yourself into a sunnier mood. Or at least into a cosy bar where you can conjure up tasty cocktails armed with a cauldron and some clever tech. Get your wizard robes on and get stuck into some serious potion-making.
Wednesday –  Sunday; 3.30pm – 11pm (subject to change); potion-making experience from £26 for three drinks or walk-ins to the bar are available too

Swim (even) when you’re (not) winning
Want to experience the joy-giving benefits of sea swimming, but don’t want to do it on your own? Maybe you just fancy sitting in the water or dipping a toe in to get you started? Then you might like to join the friendly gang at Hove Mental Health Swims. There’s no pressure to get in if you don’t feel like it – you can just sit on the beach and have a chat if you prefer. Sign up here or head down on the day. Look out for their pink pirate flag flying on the middle of the beach closest to the Hove Lawns sign by the Hove Lawns Cafe.
Saturday 24th September, 10.30am; Hove Lawns Beach

That’s the Spirit (Level)
We went to Spirit Level’s last pop-up at Cafe Rust in Kemp Town and have only good things to say about their well-crafted tasty drinks. If you’re going down the boozy route, pace yourselves though as these babies are STRONG! This Saturday, they’re back at the gorgeous Cafe Rust in Hove, which has one of the area’s best rooftop suntrap gardens (come on, we can hope) and they’ve got some gorgeous drinks coming up. Need pepping up after a hideously long week? We know we do, so we’ve got our eyes on the Corpse Reviver, a 1930s cocktail featuring gin, Lillet blanc, lemon juice and absinthe rinse.
Saturday, 24th September, 2022; 7–11.30pm; pop in or guarantee yourself a seat by booking via their Instagram or on WhatsApp 07973288550
Cafe Rust, 81 George Street, Hove, BN3 3YE
