20 restaurants you need to eat at in 2020

Last night Patterns opened their doors to Brighton & Hove’s food scene as they celebrated Brighton’s Best Restaurants’ Top 20 awards. Celebrating their fifth year of the awards, the evening was hosted by journalist and joker Euan MacDonald, who did not disappoint on the entertainment front. Kicking off the evening with an entertaining cover of Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, Euan was joined by Top 20 teammate Suzanne Lindfors and some industry favourites as a creative way of updating the crowd on the year’s foodie news.

The Top 20 team (Euan, Patrick McGuigan, Suzanne and Andy Lynes) then presented the awards that were voted for by a mix of industry bods and a ‘real people’ panel. Big winners included Wild Flor (pictured below), who stormed into the awards and picked up Best Wine List, Best New Opening and were straight in the top 20 at number 3. Opened by former Gingerman Group alumni James Thompson, Faye Hudson, Robert Maynard and chef Oliver Darby in April 2019, the restaurant has already won the hearts of many. We are big fans of their Sunday roast and will now be heading there for their bangers & Bordeaux soon too! Little Fish Market kept their number one spot coming away with Best Restaurant and Best Chef (Duncan Ray, lead picture) and Chard also did well with their dream team Mae and Ciaran picking up Best Front of House, while also coming in at number 9 in the table.

Budget-friendly Japanese BBQ experts Bincho Yakitori on Preston Street stayed at number two for the fourth year running, with The Flint House joining the Top 20 at number 11 and Fourth & Church winning the Rising Star award as they bagged themselves the eighth spot. The Set won Best Roast and Heritage claimed the Best Out of Town Restaurant, so that’s one to add to our list.

Dinner plans to make? Well then, here’s the full list of winners below for your perusal. We challenge you to work your way through all 20 before the end of the year is up! Keep an eye out later in the year for the return of the incredible OctoberBEST where you’ll have the chance to enjoy food from the top thirty for just £20 a head. Tuck in!
