BOTI REVIEWS | The Grim

Diving into the murky underworld of The Grim on a sunny Brighton bank holiday may mess with your head, but in the best possible way.

The Grim is that most tricky of things to successfully deliver, a multi-venue theatre show. Your mission, should you choose to accept it – actually, you don’t have a choice – is to gather some information for the Grim Reaper. In return, you may earn some more time on earth. But is it worth the price?

Meeting on the streets of central Brighton, you join a small band of fellow ‘trainee reapers’ on a mysterious mission to track down a soul who refuses to cross over to the afterlife. We felt that this first section was really effective and the characters of ‘The Grim’ and ‘White Horse’ were brilliantly played, drawing us in to the mystery.

The next hour flew by, meeting different characters who all gave us pieces of information. Could we trust them? Let’s just say you’ll never look at some places in town in the same light again!

The mystery-solving element was fun but we felt some sections of the show were stronger than others. We won’t spoil the ending which was unexpected, but overall we loved it. It’s a really fun way to spend an hour and felt very ‘Fringe’ – it would fit in perfectly in Edinburgh!

The Grim runs at various times on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th May.
