Get free chips this Friday

Ahh chips. Whether you like them with traditional salt and vinegar, mayo, ketchup or even curry sauce, they taste even better when they’re free, right? Well, you’re in luck, as this Friday, you can get your soon-to-be-greasy paws around a free portion at local Kemptown chippy Little Jack Fullers, courtesy of vinegar brand Sarson’s.

Just head over between midday and 2pm this Friday 28th July (we’d recommend getting there a bit earlier to make sure the chips aren’t down for you), support your local fish and chip shop and claim your free portion.

Thank cod, it’s Fryday

The giveaway’s part of a wider initiative, Sarson’s Fryday, which aims to support Britain’s beloved fish and chip shops as over 50 percent of them are said to be at risk of closure over the next two years. Like many other independents, these stalwarts of the British seaside are struggling to keep up with rising operational costs, with many being forced to shut their doors after being in the family for generations.

“The fish and chip industry has survived countless challenges since its inception in the 1860s…but these last few years have been extremely hard from an operational perspective… Initiatives like Sarson’s Fryday really shine a light on the challenges myself and other operators across the city, and across the country are facing,” said Little Jack Fullers owner David Roberts.

Research from Sarson’s and the National Federation of Fish Fryers shows that if we visit our local chippies just twice more each year, we could help stem the tide of closures in 12 months.

Support your local chippy

If you’ve not been to Little Jack Fullers before, this is a great time to discover them. They have a great variety of fishy and vegan options, source dayboat and line-caught fish to minimise the impact on the marine environment and feature some truly excellent specials, including the Bimini Bon Blossom. We’re big fans of this spicy vegan banana blossom tribute to the Drag Race UK star.

In addition to this Friday’s giveaway, which requires you to do nothing except turn up, collect your chips and eat them, Sarson’s have got more freebie opportunities in store to get people backing their local.

They’ve pledged to give away 50 fish and chip meals every week, all year long (until 29th February, 2024). To have the chance to get your meal for zip, nada, zilch, all you need to do is douse your dish in some Sarson’s, take a pic of your meal with a Sarson’s bottle and upload it with your receipt.

So you know what to do, go and get some chips (yes, proper chips, not their skinny American fry cousin) and save some local businesses in the process. Ah, we love it when eating chips is both delicious and an act of altruism.
