BOTI REVIEWS | Vardy V Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial

It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account’.

Anyone who’s read the news or spent any time on social media over the past few years will have heard of the ‘Wagatha Christie’ trial, an enthralling whodunnit for the digital age. (Here’s a quick recap if you somehow missed it: WAG Coleen Rooney accused fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy of leaking posts from her private Instagram account to the tabloids. Vardy then fought back, suing Rooney for libel. Needless to say, it got dirty. )

WAgatha Christie play

Dubbed ‘the show trial of the century’, the tale of the dispute between the two is now a hit play, ending its UK tour in Brighton after a successful debut in the West End.

With so much high-profile media coverage and a Channel 4 drama already on screen, we wondered if Vardy v Rooney would have anything new to say. We needn’t have worried, though, because the play is funny and cheeky, managing to take words direct from the High Court case records and breathe new life into them.

As Rebekah Vardy, Lucy May Barker has all the best lines, from revelations about Peter Andre to jokes about Dancing On Ice.

Wagatha Christie play

Nathan McMullen and Halema Hussain play the roles of football-style commentators, popping up at key moments to add context and drive the show along.

Two hours fly by in the company of Coleen (played by Laura Dos Santos) and Rebekah as some of the more bizarre details of their showbiz lives are revealed. In short: it’s the perfect show for a night out this weekend!
