heathers the musical comes to brighton

The musical stage adaptation of one of our all-time favourite films, Heathers, is coming to the Theatre Royal in March as part of its UK tour.

Starring a young Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, the film may date back to the late 80s (HOW is it over 30 years old?) but with its themes of toxic popularity, bullying, school violence and teen suicide, it still feels very relevant today.

While some of the topics addressed may be dark, it never becomes too much as the producers of the smash-hit satire have kept all of the film’s biting comedy, injecting the exuberant production with some high-octane rock music of their own.

Here’s a refresher of the story: Veronica really wants to be popular and it looks like that dream is going to come true as Westerberg High’s popular set – the Heathers – take her under their wing.

But Veronica’s not a fan of these original mean girls’ behaviour and she and her new boyfriend, sociopathic teen rebel J.D., plot to take the clique’s cruel leader down. Unfortunately, she soon finds out that whilst it might kill to be a nobody, it can be murder being a somebody. Oh, the hell of high school…
