the best deliveries for mother’s day

So you may not be able to take your mum out for Mother’s Day (14th March, in case you were wondering), but you can still treat her – or yourself – to a fab meal with one of these local food deliveries, from afternoon teas to Sunday roasts. Extra bonus – minimal cooking and washing up required!

The Set
You can’t go wrong with a finish-at-home box from The Set – each week chef Dan Kenny (who’s also one half of the brilliant Five Star Kebabs) and team bring out new visual and taste sensations. And for Mother’s Day, they’ve gone all out with a succulent rump roasting joint with cauliflower cheese, truffled celeriac puree and more (see the above menu), as well as extras like truffles, fudge, margaritas, a bottle of red and a specially curated playlist. Plus, they’ve collaborated with everlasting flower supremos Phohm and gorgeous Hove-based candle shop Wick to include a bouquet and a botanical candle, so that’s your gifts sorted, too. They’re only doing 20 boxes though, so get your orders in quick!

oeuf-cafe-brighton

Oeuf
You may have noticed from our frequent posts that we just can’t get en-Oeuf of the egg-cellent Oeuf (nor of the silly egg puns). And with good reason. Everything we’ve eaten there has been delicious. So it’s the perfect choice for bringing a little bit of the afternoon tea experience to your mum (or yourself!). Their perfectly packaged Mother’s Day afternoon tea box will include brownies, sweet and savoury scones, meringue, truffles, a selection of sandwiches and teabags from Brighton-based tea company Hoogly Tea. Your mum will be egg-static.

parlour-brighton

Parlour
Matt Gillan launched Parlour, an at-home-box offshoot of his Heritage restaurant, a couple of months ago and it’s been going down a storm. And, for Mother’s Day, he’s going all out in the mum-spoiling department. There’s the Breakfast-In-Bed box: think everything from flaky pastries to herb waffles with streaky bacon and his special bacon jam. Or how about the Afternoon Tea Caddy, which is full of tasty treats, such as smoked salmon, cream cheese and caviar blinis and chocolate délices. Cocktail-loving mums might appreciate the Mother’s Ruin caddy, which contains all you need for three different cocktails, plus two servings of their hangover-busting green juice. And there’s always the classic Parlour Caddy with its duck breast main and starter of mushroom and truffle puffs. Swoon.

The exciting Mediterranean feasts – veggie, vegan and meat/fish – created by the Kemptown culinary couple behind Arissy Kitchen bring all the flavours to the table. And their Mother’s Day menu is no exception: they’ve conjured up three courses featuring several of their most popular dishes, from grilled squid and slow-cooked lamb shoulder for the meat and fish lovers, to whipped ricotta and courgette and miso aubergine for the veggies. There’s chocolate and hazelnut cake for pud, and you can also add on a cheeseboard, Greek salad or their delicious flatbreads, which come with confit garlic and za’atar butter. pitch-kenny-tutt-brighton

Pitch
If you’re over on the Worthing side, then the four-course Mother’s Day box (meat or veggie) from Kenny Tutt’s restaurant is a winner. Kick things off with green Perello olives and freshly baked bread, followed by citrus and juniper-cured salmon or smoked beetroot salad. Both are served with whipped goat’s curd, pickled shallot and toasted linseed cracker. The main is South Downs lamb rump – which Kenny showcased when he was on MasterChef – served with lamb belly croquette, or thyme-roasted celeriac with Baron bigod (it’s a Brie-style cheese and yes, we had to google it) croquette. Both are served with potato dauphinoise and fine beans. A rhubarb and custard Eton mess and passionfruit pâte de fruit draw the meal to a tasty close. The box also comes with tips on how to plate the meal, so you can recreate that MasterChef experience at home!

wild-flor-brighton

Wild Flor
Wild Flor launched their finish-at-home service, Wild Flor To Your Door, shortly after the first lockdown last year and still regularly sell out. It’s one of the finish-at-home offerings that we return to regularly because everything – and we mean everything – is always bloody delicious. So if you want to snap up their Mother’s Day feast of classic dishes, you need to get in there quickly. So what’s on the menu? The box includes sourdough bread and broccoli and cheese soup, followed by braised lamb shoulder with anchovy and marjoram (or braised turnips, calçot onions and blood onions for veggies), finishing with steamed lemon and vanilla sponge with cream and some Turkish delight. Yum. There’s also the option to bump up to a cocktail and wine package for two, which includes a rhubarb negroni aperitif and a bottle of organic Rosso Piceno.
