£25 octoberbest menus you can still try

Every October (bar a wee Covid-shaped hiatus), Brighton’s Best Restaurants develop affordable fixed-price menus in a celebration of the incredible food scene we have here in Brighton and Hove.

This year, a whopping 33 of the best got involved – including several newcomers – giving punters the chance to try some of their amazing dishes for the bargain price of £25. A fair few spots sold out as soon as the offers went live, but there’s still plenty of good stuff for you to get your hungry mitts on. These are some of our favourites. Happy eating!

A pizza Italy at Fatto a Mano
A BOTI favourite, Fatto a Mano have smashed it again this year, creating an incredibly delicious and generous menu that gives diners the chance to share two starters or sides and two wood-fired pizzas or calzone from the main menu or specials board (hello, pork cheek pancetta carbonara), Monday to Thursday across all three sites. Anything you don’t finish, you can take home in a box! And even better, you don’t need need to pre-book, either – they’re only accepting walk-ins.
Available for lunch and dinner at their London Road, North Laine and Church Road sites

It’s a steak out
Head to meat specialists The Coal Shed where they’re serving up some of their standout classics for OctoberBest. For £25, you’ll get a bavette steak with a choice of sauce, accompanied by beef dripping fries, with a serving of their oh-so-moreish churros for dessert. And there’s even a glass of wine or beer to wash it all down with.
Available for lunch only on 11th, 12th, 13th between midday and 3pm

Sub be good to me
If you missed Alberta’s epic subs when they (all too briefly) had their sandwich shop, now’s your chance to get involved in this brilliant collab with Hove’s Wild Flor. You’ll start off with house pickles and crackers before choosing from a buffalo chicken sub or a fried aubergine one, served with celery veloute and Castel blue (vegan option available). They’re also throwing in a glass of fizz (the 2017 Tradicional Extra Brut Colet Vins)! If you’re feeling flush and/or particularly hungry, you can also add on mac n’ cheese and fries as sides or Jersey Pacific oysters to start.
Lunch only, limited tables available on 13th, 14th and 15th October between 1.15pm and 2pm

Fourth but not least
Hove’s Fourth & Church have also got a tasty lunch offering you can still try before OctoberBest is up. They’re offering a sharing menu with options for veggies, vegans and gluten-free diners, too. You’ll enjoy three lip-smacking courses, featuring some pretty impressive dishes, such as smoked herring, ratte potatoes, crab oil and buttermilk baked potato espuma; and miso-glazed king oyster mushroom with flageolet succotash and fried grits. Plus, there’s bread with red pepper muhammara and padron peppers to start. Perfect for a lunchtime treat!
Tables available between midday and 5.45pm on Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th October

Have a break, have a Kitgum
This is Kitgum’s very first OctoberBest and, as one of our all-time favourite restaurants (the food and the vibe are always spot on) in the city, we’re very happy to see them there. They’re popping their OB cherry with two six-course tasting menus (one is vegan), featuring some of their best East Africa-meets-Gujarati dishes. Think moong dal curry, crispy lamb belly, cumin fried cauliflower, kulfi and more.
Tables available for dinner from 5pm on Wednesday 12th October and for lunch on Saturday 15th October from midday until 3pm

Thai me up
Get your hands on a mighty Thai feast at Lucky Khao – you’ll choose one each from a selection of starters, charcoal BBQ dishes, curry or noodle dishes and a pud (with vegan choices for each). From chicken larb kebab with salted egg yolk dip to Burmese curry of smoked local pork and apple leaves, they’ve got all the flavour bases covered. They’re even throwing in unlimited rice and English veg som tam salad for the table.
Dinner only; there are still a few tables available on 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th October at limited times.

At the time of writing, several of the other offerings also still had tables available, including Market’s Spanish vegan menu (lunch and dinner); Murmur’s modern European two-course menu with add-on cocktail flight option and Med’s chef’s selection.

Plus, it’s always worth giving some of the other restaurants that aren’t marked as sold out/don’t offer online booking a ring in case of last-minute cancellations or availability.

Bon app!

OctoberBest runs from 1st to 16th October this year.
