win 6 months’ desk space and start up mentorship

There’s a new co-working space coming to town and they know how to support start-ups. Ahead of their official opening at their Lewes Road site in January, they are celebrating the start-up world in Brighton by giving future disruptors in the city the chance to win six months’ desk space and mentorship at the Plus X Brighton Innovation Hub.

The ‘Disruptors’ competition is for the city’s most inventive minds, so those with a sustainable idea (this year’s theme) that they believe in and want to make a reality, but maybe lack the funds and support to do just that. High costs and ‘getting it right’ as a start-up can be quite tough, so winning this prize would certainly help with determining the success factor for your ‘idea’ in its early stages, without the risk.

The winner will get themselves specialist support from business and product development experts and access to the fully equipped, state-of-the-art workshop space they are building on the ground floor of Plus X. Yep, you’ll be able to go and hang out there, picking up a new skill while you’re at it. We like this a lot. We’ve seen the CGI images and the Plus X space is looking sexy… and the perfect environment for an entrepreneur that has an idea for ‘disruption’.

So, if you’re reading this thinking “Hey, I’m an entrepreneur”, or innovator, challenger, artist, maker (or someone that’s just had a great idea down the pub for that matter), get your pitch ready. If it’s a product idea you’ve got, then you’ll need to make sure there’s evidence of integrating sustainable design to fit within a circular economy framework, so something to think about, and surely the only way to approach new product design when considering the planet in 2019.

If you’re sold on this opportunity, then make sure you’re clued up on who will be on the judging panel, so you know who you need to impress:

  • Daisy Stapley-Bunten – editor and founder of the fab Startyos Magazine. Daisy started the magazine as a way to celebrate the bravery of UK start-ups, after being inspired by London’s tech culture.
  • Holly Price – South East’s relationship manager for Santander Universities. Holly focuses on nurturing the talent that comes out of universities across the South East of England
  • Marija Butkovik – Women of Wearables CEO. Marija has been featured in some amazing publications including Forbes, TechCrunch and Huffington Post and she has also been selected Most Influential Women in UK Tech by Computer Weekly. She knows her stuff
  • Mat Hunter – Plus X Co-CEO. Matt is clued up on many areas of entrepreneurship and he’s big on product design and UX. Starting his career in Silicon Valley, he’s definitely someone who could teach you a thing or two over a coffee

Head over to the link below to get involved in this incredible opportunity to become Plus X’s first ‘Disruptor’ and be part of a positive social and economic impact on our future – but make sure you do so before the deadline of 3rd November.

Through connections, collaboration and celebration of the innovative city we live in, Plus X has big plans to support and nurture local business and community, driving social and economic success. We’re very excited about getting to the space, which has been created by a passionate team who care about the wellbeing of everyone who’s going to walk through their door.
