soho house brighton to add gym this autumn

There’s no denying that joining a private members’ club is pretty expensive, but Soho House Brighton, aka Brighton Beach House, is set to give members better value for their buck with the addition of a gym space this autumn.

Yep, the club with those views that finally opened last spring is planning to add on a gym in the currently unused building that connects to the house. That’s the building that had previously been earmarked for a coworking space, not the neighbouring The Gym in case you’re wondering. (The Gym members don’t need to worry, SH aren’t taking over, their team confirmed.)

The decision was apparently sparked by members’ positive reactions to the club’s partnership with Hove’s Rox Life and the Beach Box Spa, a short stroll down Madeira Drive. Rox Life offers members 17 free classes a week at the House (and two at Rox’s studio in Hove) and members can also sign up for complimentary monthly spa sessions at Beach Box. According to SH, local members believed that having a gym “would provide much greater value for their membership”.

So will it be able to compete with existing offerings in Brighton? Those sea views are going to be pretty hard to beat for starters. As well as machines, there’ll be a free weights area, sauna and, obviously, changing rooms, all across a 12,000 square foot space.

And what of those coworking plans? “We don’t have any future plans for Soho Works in Brighton,” communications manager Ali Findlay told BOTI.

Let’s be honest, we’re already pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to seriously good coworking spaces in the city. But if you do want to work from the Beach House, laptops are allowed between 8am and 5pm every weekday, plus you can book rooms by the hour for meetings.

The club’s also just announced that they’ll be offering seven-day-a-week childcare facilities with two-hour drops and that they’ve partnered with Brighton Watersports to offer members and a guest free paddle boarding sessions over the summer.

So while there’s no dedicated coworking space, if you use it that way, and as a gym, crèche and social spot, it’s not quite so spendy (especially if you’re under 27). Memberships start from £600 per year.
