Another 150 new artists have been unveiled, adding to the eclectic line-up for 2024’s Great Escape festival, a strong factor in why May is always one of the best months in the Brighton calendar.
The festival announced a whole new raft of talent on Tuesday, including soulful singer-songerwriter Kenya Grace, electro, techno and Chicago house fusion band HiTech, Ezra Collective’s trumpeter Ife Ogunjobi with Nigerian-inspired jazz and hip-hop, indie star Nieve Ella, electronic and jazz collective Cykada, infectious French DJ producer Swimming Paul, and post-punk New Yorkers Modern Biology.
This is in addition to previously announced acts, which include English rock group Wunderhorse, Scottish singer-songwriter Lauren Mayberry, Northern Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap, Brighton-based leftfield indie-electro trio Lambrini Girls, New York indie-rock group Been Stellar, raucous French language band Choses Sauvages and many more. The Great Escape is always the perfect way to discover new talent (and walk up a storm) whatever your taste in music: there are 35 walkable venues across the city and over 450 up-and-coming artists from all over the world.
Plus, with the artists performing covering a wide spectrum of genres from indie and art-rock to folk, R&B and punk, it’s not too much of a reach to say there’s something for everyone.
The festival also previously announced its Saturday programme, which will feature a whole host of showcases from indie labels, such as Alcopop, City Slang and Fat Possum, plus Complex’s new music outlet Pigeons and Planes will be curating their first-ever stage.
The first standalone spotlight show (you’ll need an extra ticket for these) will be American singer-songwriter Faye Webster who’ll be playing the Dome alongside some special guests.
