Take a dip for charity at this sandy beach

The Big Bathe, a charity event to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK and St Wilfrid’s Hospice, is returning to the golden sands of West Wittering Beach on Sunday 10th September.

Set up by Victoria Hall who was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer at just 32, the inaugural event saw 106 swimmers taking part, raising a whopping £68,000. Victoria sadly died last year, but her family and friends are continuing her fundraising work in her honour and so the joyous Big Bathe is back!

You can choose to swim 750m or push yourself further with a 1.5km stretch – there will be safety boats and paddle boards on the water. The gorgeous weather is set to continue so it’s the perfect time to make a day of it at this blissfully wide non-pebbly beach near Chichester, have some fun and do some good.

Need more? Parking is included in your ticket (it’s otherwise £10), you’ll get a Big Bathe 2023 swimming cap and the opportunity to win some prizes. And obviously the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve contributed to a great cause.

So if you fancy it, you can sign up here. Entries close on Thursday, 7th September. Prefer to just donate? You can do that here.

Sunday 10th September; from 8.30am; from £40
