After all the glitter of last weekend at Pride, the weekend is almost upon us again. If you're hanging out in Brighton & Hove this weekend and you're into Prosecco and/or parties in the park, then listen up. We've discovered some of the best things happening in the city, so you can pick your favourites and jump right in. Here's what we've got for you: Fizz into the weekend like... If your ears prick up to the sound of a popping cork, then get your Prosecco glass at the ready, because there's a whole festival dedicated to the stuff kicking off this weekend. Back for its second tour of the UK, the festival promises more than 40 types of Prosecco, pink fizz and more. If you're big on bubbles then you need to get in there quick as the Saturday has already sold out, but there are still some tickets for Friday available. If cocktails are more your thing, then hello, because there will be a selection of those available, too. And the house band will no doubt get you on the dance floor, with an Italian food stand to keep your energy levels up! Friday 10th August, 6.30pm - 11.00pm; £12.50 - includes a free welcome Prosecco and branded flute to take home (over 18s only) Hilton Metropole, Kings Rd, Brighton BN1 2FU proseccofestival.co.uk Get crafty with Kokedama The team over at Between Two Thorns are hosting another fab workshop on Saturday, but this time they're focusing on the art of Kokedama. Say, what? In other words, they'll be teaching guests moss art, using a ball of soil. It's a trend you may well have seen on Instagram and the earthy spheres are the perfect plant-based addition to any home. In the 1.5 hour lesson you'll learn about the art by starting off making your own bonsai soil. Once that's sorted, you'll work with moss and your plant to make a moss-wrapped plant base. They'll provide the string to help you create something wonderful, as well as any tools you need, refreshments while you work and, of course, a medium-sized cheese plant to add to the family. If you bring your own terracotta dish, you can make a table arrangement rather than a hanging beauty! Saturday 11th August, 11.00am - 12.300pm; £25 Between Two Thorns, 67 Upper North Street, Brighton BN1 3FL betweentwothorns.com All aboard the Beachy Head boat (featured image) On Saturday morning, you've got the chance to head off on a boat trip from Brighton Marina. Taking you on a relaxed trip to the Beachy Head lighthouse and back, you'll get an amazing view of the Seven Sisters Country Park from the water. Keep your eye out for the cliffs of Rottingdean, Saltdean and Peacehaven, before coming into Newhaven Harbour. The boat then crosses Seaford Bay to Seaford Head where the cliffs continue, heading on past Cuckmere Haven and the popular Birling Gap. We'd recommend dusting off your captain's hat and jumping on board. Saturday 11th August, 10.00am - 2.00pm; £40 Brighton Marina, Brighton BN2 5UT brightonboat.co.uk Walk your way to Breaky Bottom If you're more into being on dry land than on water, then you'll be pleased to hear that the UK Hoyas Ramble (set up for alumni of the US' Georgetown University living in the UK but anyone can attend), is back for its fourth outing of the year, and this time they've chosen Sussex. Join them at Lewes train station at 9.30am on Saturday and walk your way along the South Downs Way to Breaky Bottom Vineyard for a tour and tasting. The first part of the ramble is 5 miles to the vineyard, where you'll stop for a bring-your-own picnic lunch and relax into a two-hour tour and tasting of the wine producer's finest! The group will then head on for another 2.2 miles to Southese before heading home. Expect gorgeous views of the Sussex Downs on the route - the perfect way to spend a Saturday outside of the city. Saturday 11th August, 9.30am - 5.30pm; £15 tour and tasting payable at the vineyard, bring your own lunch Lewes Railway Station, Station Road, Lewes, BN7 2UP Register to join the ramble Smooth jazz Sunday We've already told you about the amazing Animal Farm at the Brighton Open Air Theatre (on until Saturday), but come Sunday, the smooth sounds of jazz will be flooding BOAT. Back for the fourth year running, the jazz spectacular has been curated by Charlotte Glasson, kicking things off with the Sussex Jazz Orchestra. The twenty-plus-piece Big Band, led by trombonist Mark Bassey, will most definitely get the afternoon off to a good start. Charlotte will then head to the stage for a solo set, finishing things off with the Paul Richards Trio who explore arrangments fusing latin, classical, jazz and samba. You may well find yourself dancing! Sunday 12th August, doors 1.00pm for 2.00pm start; donation at the door Brighton Open Air Theatre, Dyke Road Park, Dyke Road, bn3 6eh brightonopenairtheatre.co.uk Festival fun in Hove, actually There's more festival action at St Ann's Well Gardens this Sunday, as the Brunswick Festival team celebrate Rural Day as part of their festival programme. Organised by volunteers and local residents, Rural Day is just one of the brilliant free events included in their plans. There will be arts and crafts traders, eco-friendly products and home bakes, as well as some luscious locally grown fruit and veg. If you've got a pooch and think they could be crowned 'most handsome dog' or 'prettiest bitch' (to name just a few of the categories), then make sure you get there by 1.00pm to enter them in the infamous 'Scruffs Dog Show' that kicks off at 2.00pm. The Mid Sussex Brass Band will be playing from 4.00pm, so fingers crossed for some sunshine!
