Day: 10 March 2023

Welcome to your weekend! We don’t know about you, but it’s been a bit of a struggle this week – thanks for your help, weather – so we are READY for some non-work-related antics. From the continuation of IWD celebrations with some Kickass Women (plus a special discount code for BOTI readers), the opening of Forbidden Planet, the last weekend of Femfest, to the Traumfrau x Film Pride special and a special group swim for IWD, plus all of the below, there’s loads going on. Come join us… Something to wearWe’re big fans of pop-up shops and if you throw preloved clothing into the mix, we are there faster than high street stores can rip off indie designers. Brighton-based jeweller Silver Spur (she of the brilliantly sweary rings, we’re the proud owner of a Fuck It beauty), aka Jane, has set up a clothing sale at Florence Road Hall, where you’ve probably visited their fantastic weekly food market. The very first one takes place this Saturday with 15 sellers, including Secret Store Pop-up and Emma Stanton Jewellery, selling off bits of their enviable wardrobes. Great food and clothes? Saturday is looking mighty fine. And if you fancy selling off your own wardrobe, there are two further dates coming up – 15th April and 13th May, email Jane@silverspur.co.uk to book your spot.Saturday 11th March; 9am – 1pm; freeFlorence Road Hall, BN1 6DLsilverspur.co.uk Off the recordIf you too have always dreamed of a cosy record shop where you can discover great music on vinyl whilst drinking proper (Black Mocha Brighton) coffee, then get excited, because it’s opening here on Friday. Capsule Records, a new record/coffee shop, has transformed the I Gigi site (RIP) on Western Road in Hove and we can’t wait to visit. Just wait ‘til you see their sexy interiors. Swoon. We know where we’ll be hanging out from now on.Opens Friday 10th March at 11amTuesdays to Fridays, 11am – 6pm; Saturdays, 10am – 6pm; Sundays, 11am – 5pm37 Western Road, Hove, BN3 1AFcapsulerecords.co.uk Sussex women united The Brighton Women’s Centre is hosting the city’s biggest International Women’s Day celebration in collaboration with Brighton Dome and Brighton & Hove Museums on Saturday. You can get a taste of this ‘Dynamic Dose’ – an ambient multimedia installation that bathes the space in orange hues – until this Sunday. Created by local immersive sound and visual art collective Partial Facsimile, it’s an intimate experience that visitors can enjoy in small groups. You’re invited to enjoy it for 20 minutes, i.e. the length of a power nap, from a reclining chair. It’s open to absolutely anyone, but the project particularly seeks to boost the wellbeing of people with anxiety, depression, fibromyalgia or Alzheimer’s Disease. John Singleton’s 90s black American cinema classic tells the coming-of-age story of three childhood friends living amidst gang violence in South Central LA. Dealing with issues such as race, relationships and gang tensions, it’s a powerful watch (peppered with a lot of dark humour) that still very much works today. It stars a young Cuba Gooding Jr, Ice Cube and Angela Bassett and earned its (then) 23-year-old director an Oscar nomination.Saturday 11th March; 7pm; £9.40Wagner Hall, 2 Regency Road, Brighton BN1 2RUwhitewallcinema.co.uk Thai me upLucky Khao’s March Fest is back!
