Day: 7 July 2018

We are truly spoilt for choice this weekend. We've already told you about the weekend's literary events, beachside yoga, Brighton Cocktail Week and how to get free Piña Coladas, but there's more! And, incredibly, it's going to be sunny again. Nope, we're still not sick of talking about how good this weather is. Isn't this weather good? This weather really is very very good. Enjoy our picks! March to your own beat If you also think it's massively unfair that men can run around without their tops on while women are expected to cover up, despite the fact both genders have, yep, NIPPLES, then join tomorrow's Free the Nipple march, which seeks to raise awareness of this and other double standards that still exist. Baring your boobs is optional, it's your support that counts. Men are welcome to come and be supportive, but as organiser Bee Nicholls says in our interview with her, ultimately, this march is not for them. After the march, there's a kick-ass party. It's hosted by queer party night Traumfrau, so you just know it's going to be good. Meet at Old Steine Gardens at 2.00pm, march sets off at 3.00pm; free Free the Nipple Brighton Wat-er festival You'll have probably seen everything taking shape on Hove Lawns for Paddle Village (you can expect food, booze, music, talks and even a ukulele stage), but the UK's first compostable beach festival doesn't kick off until Saturday. Set up to raise money for various charities, it's always fantastically fun. People try to make it round the pier in their wacky homemade rafts held together mainly by optimism in the Paddle Something Unusual event, swim or paddle round the structure, or you can simply enjoy the show at sea and on land. And, this year, you can get even your pooch involved. There will be family-friendly doggy talks and celebrity appearances, plus a Guinness World Record attempt for the most dogs and their owners on paddle boards. Barking mad. If you want to find out more about how it all started, check out our interview with founder Dave Samuel, who recently handed the reins over to a charitable trust, allowing Paddle to support more projects than ever before. Hurrah! Saturday 7th - Sunday 8th July, from 10.00am; donations Hove Lawns, Kingsway, Hove BN3 2PE paddleroundthepier.com There's an art to it If you like illustration and you like animals, then head on over to this joy- and colour-filled exhibition and pop-up shop to get your fill of the two. You'll be able to see the vibrant work of various illustrators and artists, including the brilliantly fun designs of local duo YUK FUN and adorable prints by Eva Stalinski, as well as buy art, T-shirts and other items made by the featured artists. Until Wednesday 11th July, 11.00am - 6.00pm 114 Church Street, Brighton BN1 1UW Dream Safari Illustration exhibition Move your body If you like the Latin American rhythms and high-energy dance moves of Zumba, then you're in for a treat as one of the creators of the phenomenon, Colombian actor, dancer and choreographer Walter 'Wally' Diaz, is coming to the city for a special fitness masterclass. And don't be put off if you've not done Zumba before, the class is designed for all fitness and experience levels. Rather pleasingly, Wally chose Brighton over London for this one-off class as he'd heard how vibrant our lovely city is. The man clearly has good taste so we'll be joining him to get wiggly with it at Sunday's 90-minute session.
