Why do four-day weeks somehow always seem longer than the normal ones? This isn't a rhetorical question, we're sure there's a law somewhere that dictates that the shorter the working week, the longer it seems. Anyway, we're here now, it's finally Friday and we are so ready for weekend fun and frolics. It may not be another bank holiday (yet), but there's still heaps of brilliant things to do in the city. Get naked Don't make me laugh. Do, though. Please. We like that. Can we have a go, too? We'd love to be one of those people who just have to wiggle an eyebrow to have a room in fits of laughter, so we're signing up for the Naked Comedy Workshop, which promises plenty of (fully clothed) laughs as you learn how to make a real connection with an audience and be funny without even trying (we're definitely up for that). There's no grading on the funny here, either, so you'll get something out of this whether you reckon you're a straight-up laugh-a-minute fest or are convinced that your comedy gene was removed at birth. We'll leave the last one up to you. With Charleston classes, immersive theatre and live music on offer, prohibition-themed Mister Frank's Cotton Club promises to have you swinging your tassels all night long. In true Prohibition style, they're keeping the venue a secret, but it's apparently the "most talked about" secret location of the Fringe. Now that's really got us thinking! A bus (we know, not terribly 20s, but definitely safer than a charabanc), will pick revellers up to transport them to the venue (and back again). We're spoilt, we really are. Squeezing in ahead of The Great Escape is Brighton-based promoter Dirty Noise's first festival – the Dirty Weekender – which showcases the best of Brighton's fantastic music scene over two evenings. Expect loud, brilliant tunes from the likes of moody post-rockers Sobek, alt-rock trio Ragweed and grunge band Murmur at the intimate Campbell Road music studios opposite the Argyle Pub, just off Argyle Road. It's a cosy space, so get there early to make sure you get in. Friday 11th and Saturday 12th May 2018, 6.00pm to midnight; free Dirty Noise, Campbell Road Music Studios, Office 3, Daveys Yard, Campbell Rd, Brighton, BN1 4QD Dirty Noise Get watching If you've missed out on some of the Festival's other David Shrigley events, then you're in luck as there are still tickets available to Problem in Brighton, the alt-rock/pop pantomime that the illustrator and Guest Director of this year's Festival penned. Created especially for the Festival, the surreal show centres around the Problem Band (led by Brighton-based musician Lee Baker who also wrote the music) who play wry songs on instruments created from Shrigley's illustrations. It's vintage Shrigley with an added mosh pit.
