the hanover social lands this weekend

If, like us, you’re feeling all warm all fuzzy from the festivities of the Platty Jubes, well, fear not, more community vibes are coming your way this weekend with The Hanover Social.

What’s this, we hear you cry!? The Hanover Social is taking place this Sunday (June 12th) in one of our favourite neighbourhoods. The event is dubbed as a day-long festival celebration of the much-loved places and spaces in Hanover. At the heart of the cause is to show support for refugees from around the world by raising funds and awareness for Brighton-based charity, Voices in Exile. Everyone involved is donating their time, so please give as generously as you feel able!

The Hanover Centre will be the main hub for the day, where a host of festivities will be taking place, including live sets from Brighton’s 21st Century big band, Carnival Collective and the colourful Brighton School of Samba will be bringing the party atmosphere with their live drumming and percussion set.  There will also be members from the fun and vibrant Brighton Swing Choir singing classics from the swing era and beyond and Brighton based singer-songwriter Nico Carla will be doing a laid-back acoustic set of electro-jazz.

There will also be bags of activities for little ones, including the energetic Music with Mike (very much not to be confused with Magic Mike) who will be hosting a relaxed music class aimed at SEN children and their siblings. Cardboard City, a space made almost entirely from cardboard will occupy the main hall from 10am and there will also be a special puppet show presented by Fabricated Stories and a series of craft workshops. You can see the exciting full line-up with timings below.

And, if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a creative and vintage yard sale happening all over the neighbourhood, where local makers will be inviting you into their yard [milkshakes optional – Ed]. Makers including Adriana’s Energy who will be selling handmade skin products, EJ Sparkles who will be exhibiting her bold and colourful plant-inspired linocut prints and Amazonian-style jewels from Palomita Jewellery.

And to keep you going, Solitary Bee will be serving up their coffee from 10am and Get Sum Dim Sum will be there from 11am. As the afternoon kicks on, The Church of the Annunciation (Washington Street) will host a lively children’s disco from 3pm and there will be a rather impressive raffle draw (get your tickets from the Hanover Centre), featuring some seriously amazing goodies from all our favourite local businesses, from local artist prints, Unbarred brews and Beach Box Brighton sauna sessions to Village brunch and dinner at the gorgeous Manju’s restaurant.
