Japanese favourite Taro opens in Brighton this September

Sushi lovers, sharpen your chopsticks – cult Japanese restaurant group Taro is heading to Brighton this autumn with the launch of its very first seaside outpost.

Opening on Ship Street on Saturday, 20th September, the 70-cover restaurant promises steaming bowls of ramen, crisp tempura, handmade sushi and all the everyday Japanese comfort food the brand has built its name on.

“We are incredibly proud to be opening Taro Brighton – our first major venture outside of London. Brighton is a city full of energy, creativity and diversity, with a rich sense of history and community spirit – it felt like the perfect home for Taro’s next chapter,” said Mr Taro.

Mr Taro founded the first Taro restaurant on Soho’s Brewer Street in 1999, 20 years after his first visit to London, realising his dream of making authentic Japanese cuisine accessible to everyone.

Since then, it’s grown into a London favourite with outposts across the city – and now, finally, Taro’s casual, affordable take on authentic Japanese dining is coming to the south coast with Brighton marking the brand’s ninth site.

Expect the full line-up of freshly made classics – from prawn gyoza and takoyaki octopus balls to hearty noodle soups and the ever-popular bento boxes (complete with sushi, katsu, tempura, edamame, miso and rice). Excitingly, the Brighton site will also debut a house special: the Brighton Roll, a rainbow sushi roll of salmon, prawn, tuna and yellowtail, filled with asparagus, avocado and tobiko, and finished with a spicy mayo kick.

Drinks-wise, you can expect everything from Japanese beers and sake to Taro’s signature lychee martini.

Authentic and affordable Japanese dining, here we come!
