Meet Babble: Hove’s newest beachside bar-restaurant

Brace yourselves, beach lovers – Hove’s got a shiny new all-day hangout that’s going to seriously up your shoreline game. Think morning flat whites with a side of sea breeze, to banging BBQs and beers washed down with mellow beats and killer views. Meet Babble – the day-to-evening project at Hove Beach Park from the Bison Beer boys, Jack and Nick, Everflyht vineyard owner Ben, and Vicarious Pub co-founder Kim, with Sam of Slam Tacos in the kitchen. What a combo.

Part of the £13.7-million Hove Beach Park development, Babble initially opened at weekends only before fully opening at the end of May and recently launching their all-day menu, which is going down an absolute storm.

The zig-zag roof of the building and those enormous windows are hard to miss, but it’s when you head up the stairs (or the lift, the space is fully accessible), that Babble really comes into its own: welcome to your triple terrace of dreams where perfect views await on all sides. Think morning coffees and yoga on the east terrace, brunch and beers on the south, sundowners on the west, plus a lounge area and bookable tables in the middle.

Championing local

Babble’s designed to be a relaxed, inclusive space that celebrates the Sussex scene, bringing together everything – top-notch local food, drink and, of course, excellent vibes – all under one roof.

And they’re not messing around when it comes to the food. Sam of Slam Tacos has crafted the menu, which will feature ingredients from local heroes like Barfields Butchers and Shrub. You can expect a bit of everything – freshly shucked oysters, Sam’s trademark tacos, Bison Beer-battered fish and chips, and some more unusual veggie and vegan specials (the lion’s mane steak!), or a cheeky burger and cocktail combo.

There’ll be BBQs, too, with chefs sizzling up generous cuts of meat and seasonal grilled veg. Like the space itself, which has different seating options, the food is designed to be accessible, with meat, fish, veggie and plant-based dishes.

Drinks-wise, Bison Beer’s obviously got the brews covered, there’s Everflyht on sparkling wine duty, plus freshly squeezed juices, smoothies and more. It’s like your dream beach picnic – but better.

The venue’s visual identity’s a treat, too, adding some serious aesthetic energy to the shoreline. Local legends Dan Walters of design studio See Creatures (who’s been Bison’s designer since the beginning) and artist Lois O’Hara teamed up to bring their signature colour and character to the space with some stunning murals.

And if you’re just passing by, there’s also the Cabin, which opened its takeaway service hatch in March, serving up the holy grail of seaside treats from 8am every day: freshly baked pastries from Bayon Bakery (the savoury doughnuts are not to be missed), dreamy YouJuice smoothies, proper coffee from Back Yard, Caccia and Tails focaccia, Oatly soft serve ice-cream and plenty of ice-cold Bison Beers.

Whether you’re here for the brunch, the beers or just a prime spot to park yourself by the sea, this place has your name written all over it.
