Cult chunky jewellery brand to pop up in the Lanes

From evening silversmithing classes in London to a studio in East Vancouver, Rat Betty’s story is one of side-hustles turned life’s work. Founder Millie’s first pieces – the exposed brain and golden geezer ring – were dreamt up in Canada back in 2018, and today their Brighton-based jewellery brand is worn by the likes of Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga and Lola Young.

Now a team of five, they’re stepping out of their ex-perfume factory studio and into a real-life shop for the very first time this September.

For just two days, you’ll find them at 5 Dukes Lane. And it’s not just any old pop-up either; just like their jewellery, it’s got some serious attitude.

“Most people would keep things simple for their first pop-up but luckily for you, we are plagued by the burning need for adoration and approval. We are working with an actor, set designer, tattoo artist [on Saturday] and tonnes more to transport you in mind, body and soul to a classic 80s office rat race,” said Millie.

Usually online-only, Rat Betty’s pieces are best appreciated IRL – they’ve got a satisfying weight to them that doesn’t come through on screen.

They’re big on sustainability, too, using only recycled sterling silver, fairmined eco gold and secondhand gemstones in their handmade jewellery.

If you swing by in person, you can expect to see – and try on – cult favourites like the Lucky Star Ring, Rat Ring and the Golden Geezer, get help with sizing and nab a special discount.
