If your front door is still rocking last year’s sad bit of faux pine, there’s still time for an upgrade. Sussex is absolutely heaving with wreath-making workshops this year – from luxe, foliage-stuffed numbers in pubs to brilliantly kitsch creations with free drinks thrown in.
Here are five of our favourites to get you snipping, wiring and pretending you totally know your fir from your spruce.
Blauhaus – Christmas kitsch wreaths in the pub
If your idea of festive décor is more “maximalist camp grotto” than tasteful Scandi, Blauhaus is your crowd. Their Christmas Kitsch Wreath Workshops are all about bold colour, vintage baubles and recycled bits, with a free drink or beer tasting session built in, depending on the venue (Signalman, The Chimney House or The Argyle Arms. Think maximalist, playful and very Instagram-friendly rather than rustic pinecone minimalism.

The Brighton Flower Company – pub-based luxe foliage fun
Want your door to look like it’s on the cover of a Christmas interiors mag? The Brighton Flower Company runs two-hour Christmas wreath classes in Brighton and Hove, using scented mixed foliage, velvet ribbon, dried fruits and natural decorations. Workshops are hosted at The Cow on Dyke Road and The Temple Bar on Western Road – so you’re basically making a wreath in the pub, which feels like the correct level of festive. You can even choose from a standard wreath (still pretty special) or go all out with a bigger, extra-fancy one.

Expect friendly, hands-on sessions using fresh seasonal foliage, with multiple time slots at the markets, meaning you can tie it in with a mooch around the stalls. It’s a good shout if you’re already in town (Brighton or Shoreham) Christmas shopping and want to add “made my own wreath” to your tick-everything-off list.

Helm is mixing wreath-making with gallery bar vibes this December, and we’re here for it. Their workshop takes over the North Road space, where you’ll get all the greenery, ribbons and wire you need to build your own door showpiece, plus a house-made mulled wine to keep the creative juices flowing.
