visit russia’s hermitage museum from your sofa

If you’ve yet to see St Petersburg’s magnificent Hermitage museum in real life, now you can experience it from the comfort of your sitting room as one clever person has shot its galleries, masterpieces and live performances in a single take complete with intriguing musical backdrop. Oh, they  – Axinya Gog – also did it on a phone.

Yes, it is an ad for Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro, but STILL. At a whopping five hours, 19 minutes and 28 seconds, it’s a bloody impressive undertaking.

We’re not going anywhere right now, so it’s an incredible opportunity to see the Hermitage at all, but even more so because it’s completely devoid of crowds, and serving as a backdrop to some incredible live ballet and musical performances. Plus you’ll get to see a mammoth 588 works of art (from Caravaggio to Rembrandt) and over 45 galleries up close without the usual hordes of tourists blocking your view.

Don’t fancy sitting through the entire thing (it is pretty mind-blowing if you do, though)? Don’t worry, Apple has helpfully provided highlights to some of the key moments. Check it out here…
