5 things to do this weekend

The sun may be setting on summer (see what we did there), but we reckon we've got still got some sun-filled days ahead, so here are some ideas for how to spend them this weekend... Should you need another excuse, here's a goody: local wine producers Ridgeview are popping up with their beautiful bubblies on the beachside site. Their full range of fantastic fizz will be available by the glass or the bottle all weekend (we love the 2015 Blanc de Blancs) and there will also be some tasty snack pairings with the brilliant Wood X Coal, too. You might have seen the 31-room Selina in our stories or passed the creative new addition along the seafront, but if you haven't we'd recommend checking it out. For starters, the in-house bar/restaurant The Old Pier serves up a mean brunch. But for something a bit more like the old pre-Covid times (minus the dancing on the tables and the up close and personal bit obviously), they're hosting DJ sessions every week. This Saturday DJ Blonde Ambition is on the decks, aka the lovely Deanne, who somehow expertly combines being a superstar DJ with yogi teaching and parenting while we struggle to finish a cup of coffee. How can you go wrong with French fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds?4 Gardner Street, Brighton; daily 11am - 6pmPoutine City Walk it offIf you've over-indulged over the weekend or just fancy getting some fresh air and a fresh perspective, then power through any wobbly legs on the steep climb up to Sheepcote Valley. We promise it's well worth it for the glorious views and this intricately carved pair of seats to enjoy them from. They're perfect for any time of day - one faces the direction the sun rises in and the other the direction it sets. Beautiful.Sheepcote Valley, around one hour's walk from the train station Rock(water) and rollWe all know how serious the rubbish situation on the beach and surrounding areas have been and still it. As well as the council implementing fines for littering, there have been lots of beach cleaning initiatives - the more the merrier - as well as this beautiful reminder to recycle your cans or take your crap home with you, but Rockwater Hove have added an extra incentive. Rock up to one of their Shacks on the Shore and ask for a bucket, fill it up with rubbish you collect from the beach and swap it for a free coffee or soft drink. Brilliant! A bit like the Sea Lanes of Hove, their decking is a glorious place to watch the sun go down over drinks and food from the Shacks, plus on Sundays, retail, hospitality and tourism workers can get 25% off from 6pm with ID.
