It's the month that all things festive really get started, so we'll be updating you on the best Christmas events later this week, but for now, we've got a mixed feast for your eyes, ears and tastebuds! Art & a half at Coopers Cask On Saturday 2nd November, Coopers Cask will be home to a party to celebrate a local artist's exhibition, which is running for another week. Lucille Dee has been a makeup artist in live performance and special fx for over 17 years, moving on to making props and styling sets which have led to her abstract art. This mini exhibition showcases her creative expression of ‘moody art’ using neon and metallic colours to reflect her mood and give a sense of her emotion when creating each piece. There will be a DJ down at the Coopers Cask and the chance to win an original painting, too. Why not grab a half of something and soak up some art on a Saturday! Lewes Bonfire Celebrations is the biggest 5th November festival in the world and this year it's on a Tuesday, but as ever, they still expect the town to be packed full of locals and visitors for the incredible carnival. There are over 30 processions during the Lewes Bonfire Night celebrations, kicking off around 5.00pm with the last one dying down about 1.00am. So there is plenty to see, not least the incredible firework displays they have throughout the town. If you haven't got your tickets sorted for one of the displays (Cliffe, Commercial Square and Southover are their top three), then why not head up the hill towards the golf club as you'll have a mighty fine view across the town and you'll catch a few of them. If you're travelling into Lewes, then use public transport and get there early, or take the scenic route and walk over the Downs. It will take you a couple of hours but it's a beautiful walk. Yep, it's actually local shops, bars, restaurants and cafés that fund the twinkly displays in our city. There won't be a 'switch on' event happening this year, despite an event appearing on Facebook for Friday 15th, but keep your glitter-seeking eyes peeled from Thursday 14th November and get ready for some ooohs and ahhhs. The clock tower draped in fairy lights (as above) always gives us worthy neck ache and all the festive feels instantly. brilliantbrighton.com Lewes Vegan Festival Believe it or not, fireworks isn't the only 'f' word that the people of Lewes are good at. Yep, there's some amazing food produced in the town too, and their Vegan Festival is back next month to showcase some of it. Returning to East Sussex College on Thursday 14th November, you can expect to hear from some great speakers and exhibitors, as well as sampling some delicious vegan food from vegan-friendly businesses. There will also be some great health and beauty products and accessories available to buy, so pop along and check out some of the latest vegan trends. Entry is free and it's open from 11.30am until 7.00pm, so there's plenty of time to get down there. Thursday 14th November, 11.30am - 7.00pm; free entry East Sussex College, 1 Mountfield Road, Lewes, East Sussex, BN7 2XH sussexvegan.com Tuck into the Chefs' Table Back for their third Chefs' Table event, The Grand Brighton will be hosting an evening on Wednesday 20th November to support Rockinghorse Children's Charity. Bringing five of Brighton's best chefs together under one roof, they'll be serving a festive-themed menu to up to 200 guests. Chefs include Masterchef winner Steven Edwards from etch., 2018 Masterchef champion Kenny Tutt (pictured), who recently opened Pitch in Worthing, and Duncan Ray from award-winning The Little Fish Market. Each chef will introduce their dish, with paired wines, followed by a prize auction to fundraise for the charity, where guests will have the chance to put their money where their mouth is and go big on experiences including a private dining experience with the five host chefs. Love Actually is a British festive classic, so imagine how you'd feel if you watched the film accompanied by a full, live orchestra? Well, now's your chance, as the Richard Curtis film released back in 2003 is coming to a big screen at the Brighton Dome at the end of November as part of its UK tour and Craig Armstrong’s evocative score will be brought to life! Thursday 28th November, 7.30pm; from £42.50 Brighton Dome, Church Street, Brighton BN1 1UE Paint a plant pot If you're less into Love Actually and more into a love of painting, then Cult Milk's plant pot painting workshop is a lot of fun. You'll be given a terracotta plant pot, complete with a small plant, so all you have to do is embrace their collection of paint, glitter and pom poms to bring some personality to your pot. Everyone is welcome from lone wolves to groups and it's a great way to get expressive and leave with a pretty plant pot to adorn your home.
