Get a sneak peek of new Brighton Ikea ahead of Thursday opening

Two sleeps to go. At 10am this Thursday, Brighton’s long-awaited Ikea will finally fling open its doors in Churchill Square – taking over the former Debenhams shop with a two-storey mix of homeware, interiors inspo and Swedish snacks.

Upstairs, you’ll find Brighton-inspired room sets co-created with locals, including a particularly joyful one from our favourite sexy Brighton ceramicists Adam Johnson and Dan Mackey (of Open Houses, plus Pottery Throwdown and Big Gay Wedding fame), plus a home planning hub.

Adam calls Ikea “an interiors disco,” because “what’s life without a little sparkle?” We couldn’t agree more.

And yes, you’ll be able to get the Swedish giant’s trademark meatballs (and plantballs), too, in the 100-seat deli. All served with a side of sea view.

Downstairs, you’ll find 2,600 products ready to grab and go, a space for cut-price second-hand finds, and the rest of Ikea’s 12,000-item range available for delivery or collection.

At 6,695 square metres (yep, that’s a lot of tealights), it’s actually one of Ikea’s new smaller, city-centre formats rather than the giant out-of-town warehouse style.

And early(ish) risers on Thursday could bag more than furniture: the first 100 Ikea Family (the store’s loyalty card; sign up for free here) members to visit will get a Frakta bag with a mystery gift card inside, worth anything from £1 to £1,000.
