If you like nosing around other people’s pads then you won’t want to miss the Heritage Open Days. For 10 days in September, heaps of buildings across the country, many of which aren’t usually fully accessible to the public, swing open their doors and let you have a look around.
England’s largest festival of history and culture is back for 2025 and Brighton’s programme is packed with good stuff, including walking tours, workshops, and a whole host of buildings open for a peek inside.
Some of our highlights (that aren’t sold out) include drop-in workshops on the lost arts of tying a cravat and the language of fans at the glorious Regency Town House (Sat 20th and Sun 14th, respectively); a tour of 19th century artist ‘the Master of Line’ Aubrey Beardsley’s Brighton (Sat 13th and 20th, Sun 14th, Thurs 18th); a walking tour exploring Gardner Street’s chequered past on Friday 12th (sex! shopping!); a peek behind the heavy velvet curtains with backstage tours of the Regency gem that is the Theatre Royal (Sat 13th and 20th); an open day at natural history wonder the Booth Museum (Sat 13th); an adventure around the Downs Junior School WWII underground air raid shelter (Sat 13th and Sun 14th); plus plenty of cottages, churches, gardens and museums to discover in wider Sussex.
As ever, everything is totally FREE, so don your big adventure boots and get exploring.
