Press it for freebies, flowers and the chance to win a £5,000 holiday
Let’s be honest: Mondays don’t exactly have the best reputation.
But next Monday (13th July), Brighton’s getting a giant Gala Joy Button – and yes, you’re absolutely supposed to press it.
New research by OnePoll, commissioned by Gala, found Monday to be Britain’s least favourite working day, and it’s not hard to see why. The weekend’s over, the inbox is overflowing and Friday feels like a lifetime away. But the same research also found it’s often the smallest, most unexpected wins that make the biggest difference to our mood – whether that’s finding a parking space straight away, catching every green light on the way home or discovering your delivery has actually arrived when it said it would.
So here’s one more to add to the list.
On Monday 13th July, a giant interactive Gala Joy Button is popping up on New Road. Press it and you’ll trigger lights, sound and fog effects before choosing from a selection of free gifts, including flowers and other unexpected treats. There’s also the opportunity to enter into a prize draw with the chance to win a £5,000 holiday. You’ll need to be over 18 to take part so don’t forget to bring photo ID.
The installation is part of Gala’s latest ‘The Joy Effect’ campaign, celebrating the little moments that brighten an otherwise ordinary week. The campaign is based on the idea that those everyday wins can have a surprisingly lasting impact, with nearly half of the people surveyed saying an unexpected moment of joy gives them a boost and a third saying it improves the rest of their day.
Will pressing an enormous button solve all of Monday’s problems? Probably not. But free stuff, the chance to win a holiday and an excuse to snap yourself out of Monday mode for five minutes certainly won’t hurt.
