Embrace your inner mod at the Brighton Mod Weekender

Mods, Mods we are Mods! Ok, we’re not, but it is the Brighton Mod Weekender – their 20th anniversary, no less – this August bank holiday, so we’re getting into the spirit of things.

Get ahead of the game with a visit to the In Crowd Mod fashion exhibition at Brighton Museum or get yourself DOWN to The Rifles gig (be quick, this sold out last year) at Komedia on Thursday 21st August, before diving straight into all the weekend action.

Organisers New Untouchables have built up quite the rep with their guest club nights, energetic DJ sets and live gigs since starting the Weekender 20 years ago.

Head to Volks, just east of Brighton Pier, for the daytime events (from midday – 6pm), with loads of music, plus a market selling records, clothes and memorabilia. Or, gear up at Jump The Gun or the flagship Ben Sherman shop in town.

Come evening time, carry on the Northern Soul and Mod party with live bands and DJ sets at Komedia where the very first Mod Weekender club night was held back in 2004.

But, of course, the scooters and gear are a key part of the event, too.

They, ahem, rev things up with a scooter rideout on Sunday afternoon (2pm), followed by the much-anticipated scooter competition outside Volks on Madeira Drive (3pm). It’s worth heading over just for the comp; if the last years are anything to go by, there are some seriously impressive rides out there.
