brighton britney tribute video goes viral

Britney super-fan and choreographer Andrea Walker had a bit of a shock this week when his Britney tribute video went viral. Featuring iconic landmarks across the city, he rounded up some of his best dancers from local dance group 201 Dance Company for their version of her hit, ‘Gimme More’, as a welcome to the city ahead of her sell-out performance at Pride.

So far the video has been viewed by a huge 47,000* people across all their platforms, with 740 shares on Facebook alone, putting the 40 Brighton-based dancers in the spotlight after just four rehearsals to get the routine perfect. Filmmaker Ben Mark teamed up with Andrea to help capture some of Brighton’s key landmarks, from Brighton Palace Pier to the West Pier, and we have to say they did a pretty good job at filming it when there weren’t many people around, too.

Kemptown-based choreographer Andrea Walker, says, Everyone who knows me, knows I am a massive Britney Spears fan. Not only do I love her music, but her album Blackout helped me overcome some of the toughest times in my adolescence as a young gay teen. She’s had a huge influence on my work, and today she continues to be an inspirational figure to many in the LGBT+ community. When it was announced she would headline Pride in our city, I knew I had to assemble every single Brighton dancer I knew and do something special!” Well, we certainly approve, Andrea!

Performing at Pride on 4th August, Britney can probably expect a fair few tributes in the run-up to and during her performance. Last week you may have spotted someone on a Brighton bike that looks suspiciously like Britney Spears alongside local icons Juno Dawson and Vince Venus. They rode their own personalised BTN BikeShare bikes to launch their #ridewithpride campaign in support of Brighton & Hove’s Pride Weekend.

They’ve decorated 33 of their bikes with the names of LGBTQIA+ icons, giving the public the task of finding the bikes and taking photos on them. The most ‘iconic’ entry shared using #ridewithpride will win champagne afternoon tea for two at The Ivy in the Lanes. We better get searching!
