Not every craft beer festival comes with a side of stately home, Morris dancers and “beautifully strange Sussex folk rituals”. But this one does and we reckon it’s all the better for it.
Beak Brewery’s intimate These Hills festival is back at Glynde Place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August, bringing together more than 40 of the world’s best breweries, wineries and cider makers for a weekend that feels just as much summer festival as beer event.
Set against the backdrop of the South Downs, the festival is about far more than what ends up in your glass. Alongside pours from some of the biggest names in craft brewing, you’ll find street food, live bands, DJs and a programme inspired by Sussex folklore, giving the whole thing a distinctly local twist.
Rather than one long festival day, tickets are split across three sessions: a Saturday daytime session, Saturday evening session and a longer Sunday afternoon, helping keep queues down and making it easier to sample plenty without feeling rushed. Even better: every ticket includes a cool commemorative tasting glass and your first drink.
Getting there is refreshingly straightforward too. Glynde station is around a 10-minute walk from the festival site, making it an easy day trip from Brighton and there’s on-site parking for any designated drivers.
This isn’t just for the dedicated beer fans either, it’s just as good for anyone who fancies an afternoon eating good food, listening to good music and drinking in one of Sussex’s prettiest spots.
