Brighton loves a good knees-up, and the city’s about to get one with added shellfish. Shuck, the new seafood and music festival from local favourites Riddle and Finns, is taking over for a weekend of oysters, live music and late-night partying.
Across three days you can expect DJs, cabaret, swampy blues, and more seafood than you can possibly squeeze in. There’s an oyster-shucking showdown soundtracked by 90s bangers, a Louisiana-style boil served on long communal tables (messy is the point), and late-night parties that promise feasting, fizz and a lot of foot-stomping.
But it’s not just about the molluscs. Local heroes The Chilli Pickle and craft brewers UnBarred are on board, too, so expect plenty to eat and drink between shucks – from fiery Indian flavours to seriously good beer.
Daytimes are open to everyone, but the evenings are where it gets more riotous. And, if you’re only doing one thing, the Sunday boil looks set to be the highlight: think crab, shellfish, spicy sausage, corn and cocktails, all eaten elbow to elbow with strangers who’ll probably be friends by the end of it.
