Mutations is back in Brighton for its seventh edition this November and, as always, it’s bringing the kind of off-beat, genre-hopping brilliance we live for.
Across two days and nine of our favourite indie grassroots music venues, you can weave your way through the city catching everything from experimental noise to wildcard acts you swear you discovered three years before everyone else.
Dry Cleaning, the South London post-punk outfit known for deadpan vocals and razor-sharp guitars, are headlining the Friday night at be taking over one of Brighton’s beloved DIY venues.
Then on Saturday, it’s local Brighton heroes, Lambrini Girls, who are stepping up to headline. Their rise from gritty city stages to big festival spots has been wild, and you’d do well to be there when they unleash it on home turf.
In between the headliners you’ll find names like Big Special (poetic post-punk), Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (psychedelic noise-rock), and over 90 other acts pushing the boundaries of sound.
So if you’re up for wandering from bar to basement venue, discovering a fresh act in the afternoon and catching a local legend blow the roof before heading on to the after-parties (at Hope and Ruin and Dust), then this is your festival.
Friday 7th and Saturday 8th November; 3pm – 10pm and 1pm – 10pm with after-parties until 2am/3am; from £50.63
