Brighton’s best-kept secret: Neon in Nature festival returns to Sussex this weekend

Do you want to say goodbye to summer in style? Then check out Neon in Nature, a boutique wellness and music festival set against the stunning backdrop of Great Ote Hall, a 13th-century Sussex manor just 20 minutes from Brighton.

The three-day festival brings together the best of music, wellness, and sustainability for a weekend that’s as feel-good as it gets. But Neon in Nature isn’t your average festival. The volunteer-run event is all about making a difference, with every penny of the proceeds going to incredible global causes. We’re talking about supporting families in Gaza, Ukraine, Malawi, Nepal, and Brazil, plus backing environmental game-changers like EarthPercent, which asks the music industry to donate part of their income to support environmental causes. So, while you’re having the time of your life, you’re also helping change the world. Win-win, right?

So, what can you expect? Well, imagine a festival where you can kick off the day with a yoga class, dive into a cold plunge, unwind in a hot tub, and then groove to live and electronic music under the stars. And that’s just the beginning. There’s also a swimming pool to dip into, climate and social justice talks to get inspired by, daily dress-up themes, and enough good vibes to keep you buzzing all weekend.

And what about the music? Last year, the festival had Mercury Music Prize nominee Nick Mulvey and Afrobeat icon Dele Sosimi headlining. This year, get ready for rising nu-soul star Bel Cobain, Brooklyn-born activist artist and drummer for Madame Gandhi, and so many more. Let’s talk DJs now: the festival’s serving up a musical journey across disco, house, afrobeat, and tropical sounds, with sets that’ll have you dancing from dusk till dawn.

It’s not just about the music, though. There’s a full wellness programme at the super-intimate event (it’s limited to just 400 people). Think breathwork sessions, acroyoga, tantra yoga, and guided meditation, plus there’s a speaker series packed with big names from the social justice and environmental scenes, ready to inspire and empower you, and an exciting array of veggie and vegan dishes to enjoy. Not forgetting the mind-blowing art installations by artists, such as Andy Doig (he’s the one behind the excellent neon studio on the seafront), inviting you to see nature in a whole new light.

Neon’s story started back in 2008 with a backyard house party in Brighton’s Hanover. Fast forward to now, and it’s evolved into a small-but-mighty boutique festival, thanks to the vision of Cameron Saul and Jon Lee, the brains behind sustainable luxury handbag brand Bottletop (who’ve also got a pop-up at the event).

So, are you ready for what might be the last dance of summer in Sussex’ magical woodlands? We’ll see you there!
