book now: utopia music festival
Sussex dwellers are in the right part of the country for a good music festival or ten, so we’re chuffed to see that the Utopia all-dayer returns to Green Door Store for a second year this June. After a fun-filled festival month in May, you could well need a little pick-me-up if you find yourself suffering from festival withdrawals and this could be just the gig ticket.
Kicking things off at 2.00pm and rocking the arches until late, they will be featuring a line-up of ten emerging bands accompanied by hypnotic bespoke projections from UK based visual artist, Innerstrings, taking us lucky festival goers on a unique and utopian journey of hypnosis and creativity. Woah! Choosing one of Brighton’s remaining independent live music venues, Green Door Store, to host the party, festival founder, Hannah Brickley explains; “We love what they do to support local music, putting on shows quite regularly to support new bands. It’s quirky and has a lot of character and history and is somewhere we nearly always end up on a night out as they put some of the best nights and events on in Brighton.”
This year’s line up includes the likes of John Myrtle, recently featured in Session on BBC Radio 6 Music, Heavy Lungs, who you’re guaranteed to give a thumbs up to if you found yourself rocking out to fellow Bristol-based band Idles at The Great Escape last year, and Hotel Lux, whose new single ‘English Disease’ had us toe tapping from the first listen. Hannah told us that “Heavy Lungs and Hotel Lux are two of the most interesting up and coming bands around at the moment. We’ve got a huge line-up announcement coming very soon which we’re super excited about.” Stay tuned for that, BOTI readers!
If you’re wondering how you will keep your dancing shoes on for the entirety of the all-day music stint that’s promised, then you’ll be pleased to hear that the down and Dirty Vegan will be there serving up hot dog goodness to keep you full of energy. Often a sell out at Brick Lane Food Hall, we reckon we’ll be trying a dog or two.
Saturday, 8th June, doors open 1.30pm, starts at 2.00pm; Tickets £12 from DICE
