Musician and composer Anoushka Shankar announced as Brighton Festival 2025 guest director

When the Brighton Festival announcements start, you know it’s time to get ready for the city’s most celebratory time of year.

This year’s festival curator, contemporary musician and composer Anoushka Shankar, has “loved the beauty, energy and eclecticism of Brighton” since they were a teenager and is excited to programme a diverse festival of art forms from around the globe.

“It’s my hope that the artists involved in the festival can draw on their skills and heritages past and present to share perspectives on new ways forward across all of our lives, our challenges and our dreams,” said Anoushka.

Anoushka made her professional debut as a sitar player at the age of 13, touring worldwide and performing all over the world with musical icons, such as Patti Smith and the Dalai Lama. She’s also composed for cinema and is well known for her activism, especially in supporting campaigns to end violence against womena dn girls.

This year’s programme, a collaboration between Anoushka and the Brighton Festival team, will be revealed in February – watch this space!
