there’s a new type of fish supper in brighton

There’s something fishy going on in Hove and we’re pretty excited. If your busy schedule gets in the way of eating a balanced diet, then you’ll be pleased to hear that there’s a new local home-delivery service in town, launching next week. Nutritious Fish, will be bringing restaurant-quality, seasonal fish right to where you’re going to cook it, in the comfort of your own kitchen. The master behind the concept is local food-lover and enthusiastic home cook, David Copeland, who wanted to make local, good quality fish more accessible to his neighbours. With busy lives and poor quality supermarket fish, this sounds like a dream.

“Brighton is a seaside city, yet decent fishmongers are few and far between, so most people have to resort to buying supermarket fish,” David says. “However, this is generally pre-frozen, often imported from outside the UK, not seasonal, and just not great quality – in fact, a recent BBC Two documentary The Honest Supermarket tested cod fillets from five different supermarkets and found that some were up to 20 days old.” Well, that’s not an appetite builder…

David’s concept is pretty simple and it means that if we’re going to eat fish, we can make sure it’s fresh and sustainable. Fish can be ordered whenever you want, on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis, it’s then picked up on Saturdays (he collects it himself!) from Shoreham based fishmongers, Fish! David uses his filleting skills to prepare and package the fish, using compostable greaseproof paper and maintaining a plastic-free process, of course, then delivers it to customers in Brighton, Hove and surrounding areas by hand.

“The quality of the seasonal produce at Fish! – landed locally or brought in from other parts of the UK – is unsurpassable, and shopping there every week is a pleasure. But not everyone has time for that when they’re juggling work, family and social lives,” David adds. “What we’re doing is making life easier for busy people by bringing the freshest, best-quality fish we can source directly to them, prepared and ready to be cooked.”

The website is full of recipes, cooking tips and lots of info about seasonal fish, so it’s perfect for helping you plan your meals and get a bit more creative with local, freshly caught fish, which is all delivered to your door at your request, choosing from mixed, oily, white and shellfish. Right then, we’re off to make a paella.

Nutritious Fish launches to the public on Saturday 2nd November, with first deliveries going out on Saturday 9th November
