Restaurants Brighton announce Bravo food and drink winners

Six weeks and thousands of votes later, the results of the Bravos are in! Yep, Restaurants Brighton have announced the winners of their publicly voted awards, all 18 categories of them, from best restaurant to best cafe.

But there are two big questions: have you tried them all, and do you agree with the results? Here we go…

Scooping the Best Restaurant award is Burnt Orange, back in the top spot with its delicious wood-fired dishes and well-made cocktails for the third time in four years, pushing last year’s winner, veggie fine-dining restaurant Terre à Terre into second place.

Another biggie is the Best Brunch award, with the imaginative and infinitely Instagrammable Oeuf in Hove taking the gold again this year. If you’ve been reading BOTI for a while, you’ll know how obsessed we are with their Wes Anderson-esque interiors and out-of-this-world good frumpets. The also-excellent Moksha Caffe took the silver again this year.

What about Brighton’s Best Vegan Food? Last year’s winners Bonsai Plant Kitchen have done it for the third year in a row with their deliciously creative South East Asian-inspired vegan dishes. Terre à Terre came in second place.

Brighton’s Best Cocktail winner is Brighton Square’s Blossoms Bar with its fresh, Japanese-inspired drinks list. Burnt Orange was the runner-up.

If you’re anything like us, you spend your time measuring out your life with coffee spoons, so knowing who won Best Cafe is pretty darn crucial. This year, Starfish and Coffee by Queens Park won the crown again, beating Oeuf to the top spot. Known for their excellent brunches and friendly welcome, it’s well worth the walk up Hanover’s Muesli Mountain to get there. They also came third in the Best Brunch category.

If you want good food on a budget then the Best Value category is always worth a look. BOTI favourites Nanima Asian Kitchen in Kemptown won this, winning hearts and bank balances with their affordable tasty daily-changing dishes and welcoming service. Ever-popular pizzeria Fatto a Mano took the second spot.

And for the same reason and because coffee and tea = fuel, Best Brews and Bakes (a new category this year) is quite key, too. Flour Pot Bakery (Friday doughnuts forever) came out on top here, followed by newbie Bayon Bakery (brought to you with love and good baking from the people behind Oeuf).

And where did the public think was Brighton’s Best Pub? Neighbourhood fave The Robin Hood won this one, followed by friendly family-run boozer, The Eddy.

Brighton’s Best Sunday Roast is always another hotly contended category. Wood-fired restaurant Embers took this one home and we can confirm that their roasts are seriously excellent. Patcham’s Ladies Mile pub came in second with their hearty traditional roasts.
