We know we’re always banging on about food, but it’s particularly difficult to stop this week as there’s so much going on. Here are the weekend’s foodie happenings that caught our eye.
In another shameless attempt to part us with more of our money and force us to buy bigger clothes, Bayon Bakery have invested in a soft-serve machine and they are doing filthy things to croissants with it. We need them all. Word to the wise(r): get there early if you want one.
If you’re looking for a lesser-known restaurant and supper club, check out Tuntun’s on Lewes Road. The Bangladeshi cafe is hosting a biryani supper club on Friday and for £30 you’ll get sharing platters of Bengali appetisers, a biryani and traditional Bengali desserts. This one has the Sussex Supper Club stamp of approval, too –Tuntun’s catered their wedding. Call 01273 675886 to book.
Tiramisu-tasting pro George McCluskey (aka @tiramisugeorge – remember last year’s Tiramisu Summer?) has turned his hand to the making and teamed up with Pommy’s Pizza on four tiramisu specials this June. We got a sneak taste of the goods and can confirm you’re in for a treat. The first flavour – pistachio – was our favourite and launches in the Hove and Brighton restaurants and on Deliveroo on Friday.
Papa Dumpling is taking over The Windmill this weekend (Fri – Sun), with chef Liam bringing ridiculously good dumplings like black bean gyoza and pork birria baozi.

Rain aside, we’ve definitely rolled into BBQ season and Brighton’s top spots have got the memo: on Sunday, Curio (above) is bringing Curing Rebels to cook up a fired-cooked feast, alongside natural wines from Titch Hill and tunes from Well Rounded Records (from midday).
And in more BBQ greatness, Stem in Hove are launching head-first into Sunday with coal-fired specials like beer-can roasted chicken, Cornish mackerel and brined hispi cabbage. Add in their great wine selection, cool art, top tunes and some sun (you’ll be lucky) and you’ve got yourself a pretty perfect Sunday. We’d get booking if we were you.
Sarnies but make ’em extra special? You need Fumar de Cozinho’s Portuguese sanduiche pop-up at Patio on Saturday (they’ll be there on the 13th, too). If you’re lucky, the Prego, jam-packed with 12-hour smoked brisket and huge battered onion rings, might be on the menu.
Masu’s à la carte (okonomi) sushi menu at The Set (who they’re sharing the space with) kicks off this Sunday (midday – 5.30pm) and the menu looks stunning. The seafood’s dayboat-fresh and you’ll be able to see the sushi-making in action from the counter seats. The place is teensy – just 12 seats – so you’d be well advised to book. Walk-ins are available though and they’ll be operating a waiting list if it’s full.

Food by Howie is on a roll. Fresh off opening the kitchen at Hove spot The Greenhouse, he’s taken over the food at vegan pub The Roundhill, too. And yes, he’s keeping things fully plant-based.
And, finally, Kitgum Kitchen have announced the opening date – Thursday 25th June – for the relaunch of their restaurant in their new more central home on Hampton Place. Get booking!
