Last night, Preston Street’s newest restaurant No No Please opened its doors to Brighton and Hove’s food scene where a happy crowd celebrated Brighton’s Best Restaurants’ awards.
Founded in 2016 and run by food journalists Andy Lynes and Patrick McGuigan, 60 Second Reviews co-founder (and No No Please co-owner) Euan MacDonald and PR/copywriter Suzanne Lindfors and voted for by local experts, from food writers to gourmands and prolific Brighton diners (and BOTI!), it’s one of the foodie events of the year.
After a stellar 2023, we were very excited to find out who came out on top this time around. So who grabbed the gold?
Here we go… laidback neighbourhood bistro Wild Flor snared the Best Restaurant award. This won’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s eaten there as the friendly-yet-sophisticated Hove eatery is the ultimate triple threat, combining exceptional service (they also won Best Front of House) with top-notch seasonal dishes and great wines.
Edged out of the top spot for Brighton’s Best Restaurant, Preston Street’s budget-friendly Japanese BBQ specialists Bincho Yakitori scored the gold for Best International Dining.
Dave Mothersill’s upmarket tasting-menu restaurant Furna won Best Fine Dining this year, after first shooting into the top 20 last year. Dave also won Best Chef for his epic food that looks as good as it tastes. Many locals believe Furna could be the restaurant to finally bring a Michelin star back to Brighton – Le Francais in Kemptown last held the coveted étoile in the late 1970s.
Other big winners included Alberta’s at The Windmill for Best Sunday Lunch (proving that deep-frying an entire chicken really does make for an incredible sharing roast) and tasting-menu restaurant Dilsk for Best New Opening (the laminated brioche is particular swoon-worthy).
