brighton’s 201 dance company do it again with xtina pride dance tribute

Remember the Britney tribute video from 201 Dance Company that went viral? And the Kylie one? Well, the troupe are back and, this year, it’s all about Christina Aguilera as they dance their way around key Brighton landmarks, from Brighton Palace Pier and The Lanes to the Old Steine, to the music of her noughties anthem ‘Dirrty’.

Teaming up with filmmaker Josh Brady, internationally renowned choreographer and director Andrea Walker (the brains behind the Britney tribute) gathered some of Brighton’s best dance talent, including lead dancer Yasmin Cogan de Abreu, to put together a terpsichorean celebration of diversity and equality ahead of her headline performance at this year’s Pride.

“‘Dirrty’ is an iconic, revolutionary track, and back in 2002, it also represented the queer awakening for so many young gay individuals like myself. Xtina got so much push-back when ‘Dirrty’ was first released,” Andrea said.

There are a whopping 60 dancers in the final scene of the video, which involves the whole dance community in its celebration of queerness.

“Pride is all about inclusion, so I really wanted the final moments in the video to have dancers of all different backgrounds, styles and skills. You’ll be able to spot dancers from the Marta Scott Dance Company, Outta Puff Daddys and Visual Artists, among many others,” he added.

Xtina’s performing at Brighton & Hove Pride on the Saturday, 6th August, but you can get yourselves in the mood before then by watching the 201 Dance Company video!
