What happens when everyone gets to play a different role for the day, including the family dog? Everyone Rotate Right, by Coddiwomple Theatre, explores just that in a charming dramatisation of a family day out at the seaside that doesn’t quite go to plan.
Using full face masks, coupled with mime and movement, the cast created larger-than-life characters, giving us a glance into a world where mum knows where everything is, dad gets grumpy, the teenager gets impatient and the dog wags its tail!
The performers used minimal props, making every movement matter and the everyday extraordinary. Slick musical production was used to move us through the story and certainly kept our toes tapping throughout.
Despite the whimsy and charm of the piece, there is a deeper theme at play about the domestic load one partner often carries, in this case, mum. The play explores what happens when others step into those roles; we went as a family and left discussing what would have happened the day after and how they could have shared the roles better. Put it on your must-see list!
