CineCity is Brighton's annual film festival and it's back for its 22nd edition in November. You can expect an eclectic programme that's packed full of world cinema, premieres and previews, live soundtrack cinema, panel Q&As and archive gems. In a nutshell, there's something for every level of film lover. Bringing the biggest celebration of cinema to the South, the partnership with the University of Brighton will see events take place across Brighton and Lewes. As ever, there's an exciting line-up of films that we can't wait to see. We'd see them all if we could – there's not a dud among them – but these are a few of our top picks: Pavements, the not-just-a-music docu about cult 90s indie band Pavement melds biopic, stage musical and a healthy dose of humour (Saturday 9th November) A triple bill of three feminist films from North Africa, including a sci-fi feature and two short films (Monday 11th November) A night of horror on the pier with the Catalyst Club that explores and celebrates the genre, from classics to guilty pleasures (Thursday 14th November) Scanner: Harry Smith at 100, British artist Robin Rimbaud, aka Scanner's live soundtrack performance to two of American experimental filmmaker and artist Smith's works to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth (Friday 15th November) Reas, a queer musical where the former inmates of a women's prison in Argentina perform a fresh take on their life stories through song and dance (Saturday 16th November) A trip back to 1980s New York with an immersive screening of cult classic Fame (Sunday 17th November) Friday 8th – Sunday 17th November 2024; various venues and times; programme and dates TBCcine-city.co.uk
