book now: anatomy lab live

Hands up all the non-medical professionals who’ve ever fancied trying their hands at live surgery? Nope? Just us who couldn’t wait for the biology dissection classes at school to see what was really going on? We’re sure we can’t be that rare a species though because of the success that is Anatomy Lab Live. Set up by medical academics in a moment of (only slightly disturbing) genius, this sell-out event combines dinner with live surgery.

But, don’t worry, the medics are mindful of those who may be sensitive of stomach, too, so you’ll enjoy your two-course dinner before the drapes are raised to reveal a fully working operating theatre. The dining tables become a theatre table, giving you a front row seat as a crash team undertake life-saving surgery on a patient, all while explaining the workings of the body. Then it’s your chance to, quite literally, get your hands dirty! Human anatomist Samuel Piri and his team of clinicians will guide you through a complete dissection of the human body – using real specimens – as you try your hand at a variety of surgical techniques using proper surgical kit. And, don’t worry if you’ve never wielded a scalpel in your life, it’s aimed at everyone whatever your level of knowledge or expertise. It really is as endlessly fascinating as it sounds.

The events are selling out all over the country (see, it’s not just us), but there are still tickets available for the Brighton event. Even so, if you want to get some fascinating insights into the human body and the chance to play real life doctors and nurses, then we’d recommend booking up sharpish.
