boti’s guide to going out this nye

We know it’s not even Christmas yet, but we’re already looking forward to our New Year’s Eve celebrations. You know that post-Christmas lull when you reach for your leftover turkey sandwich and you realise it was all over in a puff of mulled smoke once again? Well, this year, don’t fret, because you know what’s up next, and we’re getting in early with our plans! There’s nothing quite like a celebration to see off a not-so-incredible year and welcome in the new one with all the hopes and dreams you could wish for, whilst slurring “this is going to be myyyyy year” over a confetti cannon and a ropey countdown that never seems to actually be bang on midnight. Phew. So this New Year’s Eve, what are you going to do? Do you stay in, go out or even go away to embrace what the new year brings? Decisions, decisions! For part one of our guide to NYE, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite things happening in Brighton and beyond on the big day…

Rest in Noise
We shared the gutting news that Sticky Mike’s will be closing on 31st December, but through the sadness of saying goodbye to another one of Brighton’s indie music venues, we’re pretty excited about what their grand finale will bring. Their Rest in Noise Closing Party is free entry from 6.00pm, so we’d recommend getting down their early to get yourself a wristband and make the most of what’s in store. Upstairs they’ll have a selection of some of their best DJs, carefully handpicked from their list of legends that have played under that roof over the years. Expect to hear from the likes of Acid Box Promotions, BITCH CRAFT and Eddie The Goatboy, to name just a few. Pop downstairs where DUDE RANCH will be running the show, bringing some very special guests with them. It’s likely to be an emotional one, but where better to see the year out and say goodbye to the stickiest of venues in style.
Monday 31st December, 6.00pm – 4.00am; free

Clubbing at Concorde
If you feel the need to fill your boots with dance floor classics then Gilles Peterson is waiting for you! The third batch of tickets are now available for his eight-hour party at Concorde 2 and it’s going to be a good one. He’ll be taking over the decks for a two-hour set to see the new year in, bringing his best selection of records from his 50,000-strong collection (and we thought we had a lot!). You can guarantee he’ll ring in 2019 with a floor filler from one of his music loves including house, disco and jazz. If you’re a regular over at The Green Door’s Sonic Switch then you’ll be chuffed to know that the line-up also includes Tru Thoughts local legend Robert Luis. Get your ticket before the price bumps up for phase four…

The Brighton Berlin team are back with a party at The Tempest Inn on NYE, bringing you ‘Dankeschön’, their biggest thank you party yet. They always put on a good party and if you’ve been to Berlin, you’ll know what to expect. They’ve partied with a lot of music legends over the last year and they’ll be bringing you a winning NYE line-up with the best in house, deep house, tech house, funk, funky house and techno. There will almost certainly be glitter, confetti, inflatable animals and a lot of laughs. Get yourself a ticket and head down to the cave-like venue for some seafront fun, yar? Slip into Sussex like…
As much as we love having fun in the city, there are a lot of great parties happening in the rest of Sussex, too, so if you feel like doing something a little different, then head to The Crabtree Inn in Lower Beeding. They’ve got an epic countryside celebration ready for you, with canapes, champagne and a three- (or five!) course dinner. Tom Ball will be filling the cosy pub with jazz and swing classics for a couple of hours from 7.00pm to get the party off to a smooth start, with Graham Noon’s party classics taking care of the rest of the floor fillers until 1.00am. Give them a call to book a table so you know you can get comfy, it’s going to be a fun night…
Food served all day; 3 courses 5.00pm -6.30pm £30, kids £10, 5 courses from 8.00pm £60, glass of Sussex Fizz included

Road to recovery
That will be Kings Road, in fact, as The Salt Room are serving Bloody Marys and aged beef all day. If you didn’t manage to get a ticket for their incredible New Year’s Eve feast, then this is a New Year’s Day plan that we’re mighty big fans of.
