celebrate women by becoming a street artist

We love stumbling across a street artist doing their thing in the streets of Brighton & Hove, but now there is a chance to (legally) become a street artist of your own. Proud feminist and illustration artist Alice Skinner will be heading to The Lanes on Saturday 8th September to celebrate and champion women supporting women. And guess what? She’s asking for the people of Brighton & Hove to help her finish it off!

In a celebration of the great things that happen when women come together, they’re inviting the women of Brighton & Hove to join them for the collaborative mural, as Alice will be leaving space for you to add your own personal message of support. If you’re not big on words, you can add a simple star to represent a woman that inspires you, so you can still get involved and help complete the inspiring piece. Yes, you could be part of a collaborative work of art that will Brighton up (sorry, we couldn’t help ourselves) the city’s Lanes from 8th – 30th September. We are all over this.

Alice partnered up with beauty brand Benefit, who want to encourage women in Brighton & Hove to come together and celebrate their actions and accomplishments – just like the very women who founded the brand in 1976, Jean and Jane Ford. Why thank you, Benefit, we’re up for celebrating us, too. Anyone that contributes to the piece will also get to take home one of the company’s Gimme Brow+ fun size samples, so it’s win-win. If you’ve got a keen eye for art and manage to spot a hidden product in the mural on the day, there are even more goodies to be won for you and a special woman in your life, so why not pop down and see what it’s all about.

Artist Alice knows her Beyoncé from her Biba, as she recently illustrated the empowering book SHE; A celebration of 100 renegade women. It seems she is the perfect woman for the job. We can’t wait to add our stamp of support to the 23ft high and 52ft wide mural!
