get your octoberbest food thrills by booking these now

The Brighton & Hove food scene is kind of a big deal, in our opinion. The Brighton’s Best Restaurants team launched the third OctoberBest last week, bringing us some of the best £20 menus from the city’s top 20 restaurants next month. Unsurprisingly, a few of them have already sold out, so if you missed your chance at tucking into the full Little Fish Market tasting menu for £20 or a private dinner with 64 Degrees’ Michael Bremner , then don’t fret, because there are still plenty more incredible menus to get your lips around during the festival, which is running from Friday 5th to Sunday 21st October. It’s the biggest one yet, so we’ve rounded up a few of our favourites…

Not so Petit Pois (featured image)
Petit Pois are doing big things – they stormed straight into the Brighton Top 20 last February at number 19, causing a stir in the Brighton food scene in their first year of opening. The friendly French restaurant on Ship Street brings a classic bistro vibe to the Lanes, showcasing regional wines at brilliant prices and some incredible cheeses, too. For their first OctoberBest celebration, they’re offering a three-course £20 menu from Monday to Friday. You can expect the likes of traditional French onion soup, pork cheek stew and a trio of crème brûlées or a plate of their famous cheeses, so it sounds like a pretty good deal to us.

Winning with some Ginger twinning

If you haven’t made it to the Ginger Pig since their gorgeous refurb, then now is your chance. They’re offering an incredible three-course menu for the OctoberBest price of £20 per person. And wow, does it look good. Not only do you get a choice of three mouth-watering courses, but they are including a paired drink with every course, too. Start with a choice of whipped cod roe, pickled onion and sourdough crisp or arancini with truffle and mushroom caponata, followed swiftly with a choice of BBQ pork shoulder, fried mac n cheese and charred peppers or soft polenta, spinach, celeriac and gremolata. Not dribbling enough yet? Then their dessert of peanut butter cake with plum jam ice-cream and marshmallow should be the figurative cherry on the top. Scootch on over to the Gingerman where you’ll find a sharing feast for two. What exactly does that entail? Well, you most certainly won’t leave hungry as the feast includes Lancing College Farm rare breed pork, Tamworth Berkshire Cross to include roasted loin, black pudding ballotine, confit belly, crispy croquette and crackling served with Sussex Cheddar mash, roasted carrot, caramelised apple, chive purée and Port sauce. They are even throwing in a glass of wine per person. We’ve already booked our table. See you there?

Heavinly food in Hove
From one side of the city to the other, the guys over at The Urchin in Hove are bringing OctoberBest revellers a four-course menu, with a schooner of their very own Larrikin IPA, all for just £20 per person. Now, this really is a bit of us. Known for their incredible shellfish served in big and beautiful copper pots, they will be serving up fresh sea urchin or Cornish wild oysters (depending on availability) to kick your taste buds into action, followed by tingling prawns, beer ‘n’ bacon mussels and finishing off with their coffee granita. Our advice to you is that you book in as soon as you can, as the quality of their produce and flavours in every single dish is not something you want to miss.
