brighton beer week events you won’t want to miss

This wet weather has got us all weary… or should we be saying beery, as the city’s first Brighton beer week is now in full swing! If you haven’t had a chance to check out any of the Brighton & Hove Beer Week fun yet, then take a look at a few of our recommendations so you can make the most of what’s still to come – from tap takeovers to tastings, there’s a lot going on. Don’t just take our word for it, though, as we spoke to festival founder Emma Inch last week to find out where she’ll be heading and what she’ll be drinking in celebration of a very beery Brighton. Here are our picks…

Beer and bewilderment
If you’re a fan of an Escape Room, then it’s likely you’ve been to the Bewilder Box above the Hobgoblin. And if you haven’t, then what are you waiting for, really?! With bewilderment comes beer, naturally, so the guys behind Brighton’s No.1 Escape Room have created a Brighton & Hove Beer Week five-minute mini puzzle game over at their Judgement Dave site upstairs at The Brunswick. Solve a series of beery-themed, brain ticklers to win a delectable boozy prize every time. Cheers to that!
Thursday 30th August – Sunday 2nd September, various times; £5
Bewilder Box Boozy Box of Bewilderment, The Brunswick, 1-3 Holland Road, Hove, BN3 1JF

Big party, small pub…
The team over at The Hand in Hand think it’s not just about the grain during Brighton beer week, so they’ll be celebrating the humble apple by hosting the biggest country fête in the smallest city pub! Head down there on Saturday and Sunday from 1.00pm for apple-y goodness in the form of fruit and veg competitions, welly wanging and cheese rolling, as their annual cider festival returns. Saturday will see a fab line-up from local folk bands getting into the full country fête swing, whilst Sunday brings their apple pie competition, a charity BBQ and some smooth Sunday night jazz from 8.00pm. They’re going big on Sussex cider and letting it take centre stage, but with Hand Brew Co. based on site, you won’t be too far from tasty beer options, too. How d’ya like them apples?
Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September, 1.00pm until late; free

Brighton beer tour
The Brighton Food Tour team are back roaming the streets of Brighton this weekend, taking their lucky punters on an exploration of the best independent producers the city has to offer. But this weekend they’ll be getting Brighton beery, as they lead a one-off food and beer pairing tour in collaboration with Rob Parker, bona fide beer sommelier extraordinaire at Beer & Brew. Local tour legends Angela and Cat will take you on a journey of the best food and beer that Brighton has to offer, hopping from producer to vender to give you a unique and very special tasting tour of our fab city. What we love most about the tours is that they are dedicated to supporting independent venues with passion and pride in what they have to offer, giving residents and city visitors a slice of Brighton that’s new to them, including some of their personal favourite spots, so you know they’re going to be good. You’ll munch and slurp your way through the city whilst learning a little about Brighton, the amazing food and drink that’s produced here and, most importantly, why beer and food pairing is important. It is Brighton & Hove beer week, after all. [HIC]
