book now: the social sessions indian summer

Need a little something to perk up an otherwise moderate Monday evening? Well, we may have just the thing. The Social Society is launching the first in a series of new events next Monday 24th June. The Social Sessions aim to reduce isolation locally by bringing people together whilst supporting charities via their unique social membership.

We told you a little bit about The Social Society a while back, as we love what they’re up to, offering an affordable membership (for the same price as Netflix!) that gains you access to some great people and charities that you can donate your time and skills to. They are kicking things off with an evening of Indian delights with their friends over at the Bottom’s Rest in Hove and spice legends Jaldee Jaldee. They promise to whisk you off on a journey to Southern India to experience the taste, sights, and sounds of the wonderful country, whilst in the company of some fab people. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

They’ve got a mix of traditional music, delicious food, tasty cocktails and some powerful talks on traditional self-care through the power of mantra, meditation and yoga. Their tabla and flute duo will be performing a traditional Carnatic set, which is the classical of Southern India – pretty perfect for a Monday night in our opinion. Hatha Yoga practitioner Sabina Bhandari will be talking guests through the importance of Pranayama, one of the eight limbs of traditional yoga that is often under-explored. Helen Chant will then share her wisdom about chant malas and the power of mantra with mala beads.

If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite then the goodness coming from the Jaldee Jaldee kitchen will… They’ll be serving up authentic homemade and healthy Indian street food, all meat free and made using the freshest herbs and spices. Food isn’t included in the ticket price (which is only £12 by the way, £6 if you’re a member!), but dishes start at £3.50 and are well worth a try. Do Monday nights get any better than this?
